INE studies issues of economics from the perspective of the needs of an ecologically sustainable economy.
This work is now more essential than ever in a world fraught by the climate crisis and species loss. But research is of little use if it is not shared, and our charitable activities always include a public-facing component.
Through the lens of economic and ecological sustainability, we delve into contemporary issues including energy, agriculture, trade, employment, general economic changes and social welfare.
Projects

BC Energy Economics
We’re working to increase the knowledge and awareness of British Columbians and Canadians about issues of environmental sustainability, the economics of fossil fuel energy in B.C.’s economy, and the role of renewable energy in combating climate change.
Indigenous Economic Resilience
From a solutions-driven lens, we work with local people who represent various levels of Indigenous and settler community leadership to model a CED and decolonizing approach to supporting and organizing business development, community development, and community building activities in B.C.’s northwest.

Low Carbon Energy Transition
We’re exploring and building awareness about potential transition scenarios from a carbon-dependent economy to a net-zero economy. We’re meeting communities where they are at, to understand their ideas on climate change, the transition, and potential solutions.
